At first, the neighbors empathized a lot with the mother, a 32-year-old Albanian woman, after they thought that her child had suffered a fatal accident. " We joined her because that's how we are here ," said another neighbor.

It was the mother of the little ones who called the emergency telephone number on June 11 to announce the alleged accident that one of her children had suffered. Investigators noticed that his twin brother also had bruises on his body. He was taken to Alicante General Hospital where a detailed injury study was performed.

Khadija had no criminal record, but had previously lost custody of the juveniles due to drug addiction. Her acquaintances say she was a lonely woman with few friends. "She was always very nervous. "She scolded her children for everything," said a neighbor.

"She always yelled at them," said another who asked the woman one day why the boy had bite marks on his arms, but she justified that the children had quarreled with each other. "One day I told him not to scold children like that," explains one of the neighbors.
