Confindustria has reacted to the amounts of smuggled oil seized in the country during the last 5 months, calling for extraordinary measures to be taken to stop such a violation.
According to the reaction made by Konfindustria, only the seizure of 45 thousand tons of contraband fuel caught in the last 5 months, is worth about 55 million euros if it were to be sold at retail and the value of the fiscal obligations that would go to the state coffers reaches the figure of 40 million euros.
Full reaction:
Confindustria demands extraordinary measures against massive fuel smuggling in the country. Confindustria estimates that based only on the media data of state institutions, in a period of 4-5 months, more than 35-45 thousand tons of contraband fuel were seized on commercial ships in the Port of Porto Romano/Durrës.
The retail value of the above quantity amounts to 45-55 million euros. From the above amount, the value of smuggling/concealment of fiscal obligations, which should be transferred to the state budget, can reach 30-40 million euros. The above is a direct consequence of the high rate of fuel taxation in Albania as well as the subjectivism and corruption of the responsible state agencies.
It is estimated that the quantities of seized fuel generally come as a result of alerts from specialized international agencies due to the violation of the embargo from countries such as Libya, Russia, Iran, etc. The real profit in these cases for the companies is very high because the purchase price is almost 1/3 of the international stock market price, while the selling prices in the Albanian market are among the highest on the continent.
The above quantities are only the part of the fuel contraband caught on the transport vessel. This does not include smuggling and transport ships that have not been captured. Also, the amounts of fuel smuggled by fishing boats, from the country's refineries, cross-border movements, etc. are not included.
The real amount of fuel smuggling in Albania is quite high. The comparison of fuel consumption between Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia shows that the value of smuggling can exceed 300 million euros/year.
Confindustria assesses that the high level of "fiscal evasion" as a result of massive fuel smuggling, in addition to the serious damage to the state budget, also causes severe damage and disruption of competition between businesses in all sectors of the Albanian economy with devastating consequences in the long term. .
