The Football Federation of North Macedonia has reacted with a public statement, after a video appeared on the network, where the player of the National Team, Mirlind Daku, appears with a megaphone on the field, the Macedonians seem to care.
The Federation states that Daku should apologize, while the relevant institutions are also called upon to investigate this incident and take appropriate disciplinary measures.
We express our deep concern and condemn the nationalist calls of the Albanian footballer Mirlind Daku directed against the Macedonian state after yesterday's match between Croatia and Albania in the European Championship.
Such behavior is unacceptable and contrary to the basic values of sport and mutual respect that football promotes.
Sport, especially football, is the basis of cooperation and respect between different nations.
Nationalist rhetoric, however, undermines these principles, fostering division and hostility between fans and societies.
The political principles are included in the regulations of international associations such as FIFA and UEFA. The Macedonian Football Federation will send an official letter to UEFA for this scandalous behavior.
We call on the Albanian footballer Mirlind Daku to publicly apologize for his behavior and for the damage he has caused.
We also call on the relevant institutions to investigate this incident and take appropriate disciplinary measures to reinforce the standards of behavior expected of all athletes.
Our commitment to promoting unity, respect and fair play in sport remains paramount.
