Former AC Milan player Robinho will serve a 9-year prison sentence for gang rape in Brazil, according to a Supreme Court ruling there.

The event in question happened on January 22, 2013 while the Brazilian was playing for Milan.

Together with 5 other people, they raped an Albanian woman in a night club.

Italy had issued an international arrest warrant for Robinho , but the latter had escaped the cell after recently staying in his homeland, in Sao Paulo.

The Brazilian constitution does not allow the state to extradite its citizens, the Italian side had requested that the former footballer serve his sentence in Brazil.

For this reason, 9 of the 15 judges in the Superior Court of Justice in Brazil accepted this request and voted in favor of Robinho serving the sentence in his homeland, forming a simple majority sufficient to decide the fate of the former footballer.

As the international media write, they did not say whether the player is guilty or innocent, but only if he should serve the sentence in Brazil. And so, as Globo reports, Robinho should be imprisoned immediately.

Robinho was found guilty of raping the Albanian girl in November 2017. But as the years passed, the Brazilian could not be extradited. And so the Italian justice itself requested that he serve the sentence in his homeland.
