Lewis Hamilton-Ferrari, a story that has yet to be written

Lewis Hamilton's contract is one of the hottest arguments in Formula 1 at the moment. Will he still stay at Mercedes? In recent years, the cooperation between the parties has never been put into question, with consecutive titles and a very good relationship with the main manager of the team, Toto Wolff.

However, a last-gasp title loss in 2021 to Max Verstappen, followed by a struggling 2022 and an uncompetitive car, have raised doubts about the future of the English driver.

Hamilton last year experienced the first season without a win. It was the first time he has taken part in F1 since 2007. This year the trend has not changed and Wolff himself admitted that the fact that Hamilton does not have a competitive car could have consequences in the current contract discussions.

In this situation there is quite a bit of speculation and the latest comes from Austria, specifically from Gerhard Berger. The former Ferrari driver, speaking to the 'Kronen Zeitung', proposed Hamilton to race with the Italian Scuderia.

"If Lewis doesn't have a competitive car at Mercedes and if Red Bull's doors are closed, why doesn't he try with Ferrari? Maybe it would also solve the problems they have at Maranello. Then, linking a driver to a team won't to say nothing, no one reveals their cards", said Berger.

The Austrian further adds: "All drivers want to drive a Ferrari at least once in their life. All the best drivers in history have been there sooner or later. Ayrton Senna didn't go because he knew he could win, maybe the same thing will happen with Lewis."

As for the current situation in the championship, Berger does not see great opportunities for Verstappen's opponents.
