Since 2020, when Juventus' "reign" of 9 consecutive championship titles ended, no other team has managed to defend the "scudetto" in Italy. Not Conte's Inter, not Pioli's Milan, not Spalletti's Napoli, and not Inzaghi's Inter.
Now, the Neapolitans, with Conte as the "helmsman" and the tricolor on their chests, as the reigning champions, want to break this curse and make history by winning their third title in 4 years. The competition, however, is fierce, all the Serie A teams are equipped "to the teeth" (within their economic means), to take them down by the Neapolitan blues.
In fact, De Laurentiis was among the first to strengthen the champion team, which did not lose key players this summer (Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia, the biggest sales in 2025, were not decisive for winning the last title). He has invested (so far) 89 million euros in the transfer market.
The biggest "transfer" was keeping coach Conte, despite calls for him to return to Juventus or take over at Milan. Then came the surprises: Beukema, Noa Lang, Milinkovic-Savic (goalkeeper Vanja), Marianucci, Lorenzo Lucca and, of course, Kevin De Bruyne.
De Bruyne and Modric, veteran stars of Serie A
The Serie A of the "old stars" is back. The one that gives the "second renewal" (or third) to footballers who seem ready to retire. Beyond De Bruyne (34 years old), Luka Modric (39 years old, Milan), Ciro Immobile (35 years old, Bologna), Edin Dzeko (39 years old, Fiorentina) and "Mudo" Vázquez (36 years old, Cremonese) will play in Italy.
KDB arrives in southern Italy to strengthen the Italian champion who also wants to shine in the Champions League. This transfer is the most media-driven since Maradona arrived in the 80s at the old “San Paolo”.
"Why Napoli? I took into account all the factors: work and life, career and future. Moreover, it is the team that won the title, an extraordinary team. Playing against Napoli in the Champions League, I know what it feels like. I know the fans, their passion and support," declared the Manchester City legend when he decided to join Conte's "azures".
Luka Modric, on the other hand, arrived in northern Italy with the enthusiasm of a young man. The 39-year-old Croatian veteran chose the team of his idol, Boban, with still a lot to give:
"I can bring my experience. I will work hard, I will give everything to do the same thing I have done at other clubs. I will speak with my humility, work ethic and simplicity. I do not consider myself special. I am a normal person, who loves football. I am lucky to play at a big club like Milan."
A renewed Inter?
The current European runners-up come with the need to forget the disastrous months of May and June: destroyed 5-0 by PSG in the Champions League final, without the Coppa Italia and the Serie A title, tired after the Club World Cup, where Christian Chivu debuted as Inter coach.
It won't be easy to overcome the departure of Simone Inzaghi, but at least the Nerazzurri have kept all their stars. Moreover, they have renewed the squad and improved the depth of the squad. Transfers such as Luis Henrique, Sucic, Bonny and the advancement of Pio Esposito in the hierarchy will give the Nerazzurri "new blood".
A Milan without… Europe
For the first time since 2019 (when they were punished for not respecting the FPF), Milan will face a season without European competition. This has caused a "revolution" in Milanello: a new sporting director (Igli Tare), the return of Massimiliano Allegri and many transfers.
By selling Reijnders to City, Milan have financed a new midfield. The "Djalli" lost the MVP of the 2024-2025 season, yes, but they have acquired Modric, Ricci and Ardon Jashari. Furthermore, they have replaced the absence of Theo Hernández (who went to Al Hilal with Inzaghi) with Pervis Estupiñán, and have kept their two main strikers on the wings: Rafael Leao and Pulisic.
It remains to be seen how Allegri will exploit the easier schedule and whether he will restore to Milan the defensive consistency that has been lacking in recent years. The goal is clear: return to the Champions League, but Napoli already made an epic comeback last season; from tenth to champion.
Juventus in the spotlight
Coach Igor Tudor, who has renewed his contract until 2027, is tasked with stabilizing the black and white team after an uncertain season. The "Old Lady" has somewhat strengthened key departments and has a group of experienced and talented players. Expectations are high to return Juventus to the top of Serie A and to have a dignified appearance in the Champions League, but the lights and shadows remain, however.
