Kosovo makes history with Sweden and dreams of the World Cup

The Kosovo national team has written history at "Fadil Vokrri", defeating Sweden with a surprise 2-0 score in the World Cup qualifying match, marking the first home victory for the Dardanians in this competition (after 1 draw and 8 losses).

The hero of the evening was Elvis Rexhbeçaj, who scored Kosovo's first goal in direct confrontations with the Swedes. After a long ball, the midfielder found himself in front of goalkeeper Robin Olsen: the first attempt was stopped, but Rexhbeçaj reacted first and pushed the ball into the net for 1-0. Just a few minutes later, in the 42nd minute, it was Vedat Muriqi who doubled the score, after being served perfectly by Albion Rrahmani and not forgiving in front of the opposing goalkeeper.

Despite Sweden dominating possession and making many attempts, Franco Foda's well-organized defense did not allow for any space. Viktor Gyökeres had a good chance in the first half, while in the second half coach Jon Dahl Tomasson also activated Alexander Isak, but without result.

Kosovo, besides defending with discipline, found the strength to risk again on the counterattack. Florent Muslija had the chance for the third goal, but his shot went wide. In the last minutes, the Dardans were left with one player less after Lindon Emërllahu was sent off with a red card just six minutes after entering the field, but even this was not enough for Sweden to change the fate of the match.

After a 4-0 loss to Switzerland, this victory moves Kosovo into second place in the group behind Switzerland, which continues to win by a goal against Slovenia.

For Sweden, this defeat is a heavy blow, as it already remains five points behind Switzerland and outside the target for direct qualification.
