Argentina striker Angel Di Maria will retire from international football after the end of next year's Copa America. The 35-year-old has been part of the Albiceleste representative for 15 years. With a message on his Instagram profile, the attacker showed the reasons for the decision.

"The America's Cup will be the last competition in which I will wear the Argentina jersey, with all the pain in my soul and with difficulty I say goodbye to the best thing that happened to me in my career. Thank you to the fans, thank you to the family, thank you to friends and teammates, we continue to make history and this will remain forever."

The footballer has made 136 appearances for world champions Argentina since his debut in 2008, playing in four World Cups and scoring in the Qatar 2022 final against France.

He will participate for the sixth time in the Copa America in the tournament that is held from June 20 to July 14 in the USA. The Blue and White will seek to defend the championship title.

Di Maria joined champions Benfica this year. He was part of the Portuguese in the years 2007-2010. The Argentine has also played for Real Madrid, Paris St Germain, Juventus and Manchester United.
