The CDU Rapporteur for Albania, Peter Beyer, visited Albania for a few days and met with a number of representatives of political parties, the government, the opposition and diplomats. He says two issues have been in focus. The first is Albania's membership in the EU.
"Albania should not be a victim of the shameful blockade of Bulgaria. "Albania must now be invited to the next intergovernmental conference as another concrete step in the EU membership process," Beyer said in a Facebook post.
The second topic of discussion was the situation in the Democratic Party.
"Albania's parliamentary democracy needs a united and strong opposition. The personal agendas of individuals should not play a role outside of responsibility for the country.
It is clear that any kind of cooperation with a "persona non grata" both nationally and internationally is prohibited from the outset. "This is a common, indisputable position that we strictly represent in unison with our friends in the United States."
