The 4 socialist names that are expected to compete for the municipality of
Ali Hallaçi and Granit Gjana

As the former mayor of Kukës municipality, Safet Gjici, has ended up in handcuffs and is waiting to face justice after the sexual video scandal in the office, the Socialist Party is wasting no time.

In the pink headquarters, efforts have begun to find a new and dignified figure, according to them, to reconfirm the socialist leader of the northeastern city.

Sources for Report Tv indicate that there are 4 figures who have passed the first filter of positive evaluation.

Ali Hallaçi, currently holds the post of prefect of Kukes, a candidate who is rumored within the socialist camp and local structures in the area, to compete in the next local elections. Hallaçi was the mufti of Kukës in 2001-2010, while from May 2022 he holds the post of prefect.

The same sources also indicate that 3 more names will pass through the socialists' sieve. Granit Gjana, the current head of the municipality, appointed by the Municipal Council after holding the position of vice-mayor until the dismissal of Safet Gic. Ghana is also one of the main preferences of the Socialists.

The other two potential candidates that are being discussed are Astrit Dobrushi, member of the Kukës municipal council, businessman, and Albert Halilaj, former director of the tax department in Kukës.

As for the rival camp, the only name that has so far confirmed the candidacy is Admir Sinamati. Gjic's former rival said on May 14 under the banner of Bashke Fitomje that he will enter the competition again, which is expected to take place in the first 2 weeks of August.

According to Article 10 of the Electoral Code, in case of interruption of the mandate, new elections are held no earlier than 30 days and no later than 45 days from the date of notification of the interruption of the mandate. The announcement of the vacancy is made 15 days after the end of the deadline for appeal to the Constitutional Court, i.e. July 31.

According to the procedure provided in the Electoral Code, the prime minister will first notify the institution of the presidency about the termination of the mandate of the mayor of the relevant municipality. After the official notification of the created vacancy, the President of the Republic will have to decide within 48 hours on a new date for partial elections, which according to the constitutional provisions is expected to be August 6 or August 13.
