The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, at the meeting of the Democratic Party parliamentary group commented on the murder of judge Astrit Kalaja in the courtroom.
He directly accused the government and Prime Minister Edi Rama of creating a "narco-state" which, according to him, has paved the way for crime to interfere in the justice system.
Berisha stressed that the attack on the judge would not have occurred if the state was functioning normally and the law enforcement agencies held legal responsibility for the security of justice institutions.
According to him, Prime Minister Edi Rama changed a government decision that forced the state police to guarantee security in the courts.
"Edi Rama transfers this security from the State Police to the Pocket Police. He makes a decision on 8.7.2020 where he removes their security and Koçiu washes his hands of it. The police have no responsibility, he said," Berisha said, among other things.
Berisha: We are gathering today after the Albanian drug lord killed the judge in his office. When I say drug lord, of course I am clear that the perpetrator was not a state employee, but the perpetrator could never have committed the act if the state were the state and not a drug lord. Never!
The courtroom is supposed to be the safest place in the state due to the complexity of the processes.
And in the courtroom, a battery was fired against a judge, as if it were in the middle of the street. As if it were in a square, in a cafe, but in a state institution.
I want to inform Albanians that with a decision dated 8.7.2020, Edi Rama has canceled the previous government decision dated 28.4.2010, which made the State Police responsible for the protection and security of the courts.
So, after the changes, previously it was the Guard, but in 2010, with a government decision, the security of the courts and prosecutors' offices was protected by the State Police.
Edi Rama is transferring this security from the State Police to the Pocket Police.
He made a decision on July 8, 2020 to remove their security, and Koçiu washed his hands of it. The police have no responsibility, he said.
So, he gave the patronage, the pocket police, protection.
