The re-election of Ursula von der Leyen at the head of the European Commission is good news for Prime Minister Edi Rama, which marks the beginning of a new chapter for the European Union.

The head of the government says that he has full confidence in Ursula's direction and the attitude she has for the Western Balkans.

"The European Parliament's vote for the re-election of Ursula Von Der Leyen is a powerful statement that marks the beginning of a new chapter in the governance of the Union with a reinvigorating entry. Albania welcomes this declaration with renewed hope and full confidence in Ursula's leadership. We commend her clear stance on the Western Balkans in her speech today in the European Parliament. I look forward to continuing the work with the President of the Commission to introduce Albania to the EU and to further integrate the EU with the Western Balkans ," says Rama in his statement.

Ursula von der Leyen secured a new 5-year term as president of the European Commission, after a secret vote of MEPs. The 65-year-old secured the support of 401 members of parliament during the vote in Strasbourg, 41 more than she needed.
