The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, said today, in an interview for Top News, that Tirana has become a political epicenter of the Balkan region. While commenting on the visit of former US President Bill Clinton to Albania, he added that the hospitality towards his figure was a gratitude from the heart of all the citizens of Tirana.
"It was an extraordinary ability of Prime Minister Edi Rama to turn Tirana into a center of many political activities. We in the city do more of the cultural, sports, concerts, events, and the Prime Minister, starting with the Berlin Process Summit, or extremely important visits, has turned Tirana into a political epicenter of the entire Balkans. We are today undoubtedly the most stable country, we have no conflicts with our neighbors, we are experiencing a tourist boom and of course, these visits increase the reputation of our country. In the most concrete case, in all these activities organized by the Prime Minister, I believe that the cherry on the cake was the visit of Bill Clinton, perhaps the most beloved American in the country that loves America the most in the world. It was an extremely encouraging visit,, declared Veliaj.
Asked why the opposition led by Sali Berisha and Ilir Meta were not at the reception organized for President Clinton, Veliaj said: "I am not posted, I do not distribute invitations. What I was saying in the campaign is that they are addressless, nameless, faceless. The question is: What is their political home that we address? What I heard last time, is that even Comrade Ilir Meta wants to separate his group of Municipal Councilors apart from that of Sali Berisha. Clearly, he also has a strong allergy to the presence of Mr. Berisha on his list. So, the best question is for Tirana Post: Where is their exact address? And we will see how we can accommodate them in the future concerts we have ", said Veliaj.
