Although newly elected as the head of the municipality of Himara, Fredi Beleri of "Bashkë Fitomje" is in prison accused of buying votes during the electoral campaign.
The head of PBDNJ, Vangjel Dule, calls his arrest completely arbitrary and political. Invited to Klan News, Dule said that everything has its origins on the day of the Prime Minister's rally in Himare, on May 6.
Dule further made a funny comparison where he compared Fred Beller, caught red-handed for buying votes, with Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who has been in prison on Putin's orders for years.
"It was an indisputable victory and if the arbitrary, unprecedented arrest had not happened, the victory would have been many times greater. I'm sorry to say it, but Mr. Beleri is like Putin keeps Navalny in prison, like Erdogan keeps Demirtash. Mr. Rama has taken a hostage and is keeping Mr. Beleri in prison. It's that clear and that simple. This is funny, because at the moment when it is claimed that the arrest is made in flagrante delicto, Mr. Beleri is at 00:15 minutes after midnight, he is with his lawyer, his cousin after a dinner together and they were discussing, so what is the logic? That Mr. Beleri was trying to buy the vote of the lawyer, or the cousin? On May 6th, until then the campaign was so exemplary that I didn't even have to go, everything turned upside down on May 6th when Mr. Rama held the rally, there weren't even 30 local citizens,- said Vangjel Dule.
