Albania marked this Tuesday another historic moment in the European Integration Process, the opening of negotiations with the European Union for the first group chapter.
The Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, said that Albania never stopped its step and its desire to be a member of the EU.
He emphasized that the EU has accelerated the pace and the candidate countries must do more in fulfilling the reforms.
"We started to build Europe in Albania, we have dealt with issues that I think have been problems for decades. For example, the Bypass of Vlora, which we inaugurated. We have the College of Europe in Albania and this happened because Albania has never been on the path to the EU. I hope this continues. Albania is a member until the end of the next mandate. On the ground, we must implement the investment plan. The EU is accelerating the pace and while waiting for you to take the necessary steps for reforms, for you to become a member," he said.
