"I did not defend Erion Veliaj, he must undergo his entire process ." This is what Prime Minister Edi Rama said last night on Top Story, in front of moderator Grida Duma and journalists Alban Dudushi and Robert Rakipllari.
"I have said that the period of silence is over. Five years of silence were enough, SPAK has stood up. It is no longer a baby that needs silence even when it makes a mistake. It has all its capacity, it has independence from everything," said Rama, referring to journalist Alban Dudushi's question about why he spoke and commented on SPAK's decision in the case of Erion Veliaj's arrest.
" Five years of silence have not been five years of approval of everything and I have always said that not everything is perfect. There are problems, we definitely make mistakes, we are not perfect and that is true."
The government of Albania is the oldest institution of the Albanian state because it is the first thing that was born, it has 100 or so years of tradition and yet we are wrong. They are a newly born institution that has no tradition, they have nothing. They have taken a power that the people of justice in Albania have never had.
I didn't face this issue as an issue that had to do with the mayor. I faced an issue that had to do with some people who, I found in this process for a completely different reason, artists, young people, people who have nothing to do with politics, who I heard about quite by chance and then I started to delve deeper.
I heard about incredible stories, arrests of pretenders, phone calls and this was the moment I said right here, Stop. But this does not imply any kind of influence on the specific person, because I did not say anything. Erion is in his process and must always submit to the process regardless of everything, nor does it imply that now this work has gone too far and now we must take back the sword, because that sword will not be taken back as long as I am here" , Rama continued.
