The speaker of the Russian Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin , has come under fire after, in a conversation with President Vladimir Putin , he recounted as fact a completely false story about a “ corrupt minister of artificial intelligence ” in Europe.

Volodin claimed that in one European Union country an AI appointed as a minister was “ caught taking bribes ” and had “ embezzled funds .”

The event he described turned out to be a hoax that circulated for several days on the Russian internet.

In the original version, it was said that in Albania, which is not part of the EU, an artificial intelligence "minister" named " Diella " was dismissed after accepting a bribe of 14 bitcoins during a tender for the construction of a highway.

The source of the news was the Croatian satirical platform Newsbar , similar to the Russian political humor site Panorama, which deliberately publishes fictitious news.

However, Volodin not only relayed this story to Putin as a real example of “ AI corruption ,” but also published the video of the conversation on his Telegram channel with the caption: “ In the European Union, an AI appointed as a minister has embezzled funds .”
