The US Department of State, through the Embassy in Tirana, has warned American citizens in Albania of an increased risk from groups linked to Iran, following current tensions in the Middle East.

According to the announcement, these groups may target entities affiliated with the United States, elements of the Iranian opposition in Albania, as well as public places such as tourist attractions, shopping malls, hotels, nightclubs and restaurants.

Socialist Party MP Blendi Klosi stated that Albania is not alone in facing Iranian attacks. He emphasized that the country has experienced two major attacks by Iranian groups, one three years ago and the other recently, but investments in defense have reduced the damage.

Klosi underlined that Albania's membership in NATO and European partnerships ensure global protection, while the alliance with the US is an added guarantee. He called for attention, but not fear, reassuring citizens that the country has the capacities and international support to face cyber threats.

"The announcement when it comes from the American Embassy requires much more attention from the security and defense structures. It is not news that comes as news to us because we have been under attack by Iranian groups in the context of cyberwar and it is the second time that a major attack has been noticed in this regard and this is part of the conventional war that is being waged now because war is not fought only with weapons.

We have had two attacks, the first one 3 years ago which was really very difficult, we had investments in the field and this made us more protected and the second attack that happened a few weeks ago did not have the same damage as the one 3 years ago, but what really should calm Albanian citizens and public opinion is that the fact that we are part of the world's largest alliance such as NATO or the fact that we are part of European partnerships in terms of defense in every aspect gives us a guarantee that we are part of global defense.

"Also, our alliance with the US is already evident, an alliance that has had its fruits and I believe that there should definitely be attention but not fear and terror. It is not simple and people definitely feel it," said Klosi.

Klosi added that defense extends to several levels: territorial, air, and cyber, and that previous attacks have strengthened the country's security.

He called on citizens to remain calm, emphasizing that Albania is part of global partnerships and does not face these threats alone.

"What I strongly say to Albanian citizens is that we are not alone in this confrontation, we are part of the alliance and as such we have the protection that the alliance offers to all partner states and what is to be emphasized is the entire policy of being an active part of this alliance. In terms of what it means to be protected, it is one thing to be protected on the territory, another to be protected from the air and another to be protected in cyberspace is something else," he said.
