The German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, called on the European Union to keep its promises to the countries of the Western Balkans for their integration into the EU.

In a speech before the European Parliament on the future of Europe, Scholz also called for the continuation of the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, writes rel.

"Europe must also open up to others. Key decisions for Europe were those of last year, when we decided to work for an enlarged Europe. We have told the countries of the Western Balkans, as well as Ukraine, Moldova and possibly Georgia, that they have a place in Europe", said Scholz.

"Geopolitical Europe must keep its promises. Promises must be kept towards the Balkan countries, to which we have been promising membership for 20 years. The normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia must continue. Integration reforms must continue. The negotiation process with North Macedonia must also be advanced. Enlargement should not be the only motive for reforms, but it should be taken into account", said the German chancellor.
