Sara Mila: We are not considering resignation or early elections. We are busy

Socialist MP Sara Mila, invited this Saturday to the "Review" show with Greta Topjana on Euronews Albania, has revealed details regarding the meeting of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group where the protest was among the discussions. Mila, during her speech, stated that the government and the Socialist Party respect the protest and value freedom of speech, while adding that the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama or new elections are not being considered.

According to her, the government is in the middle of a mission towards the EU, for which Albanians were entrusted with 83 mandates in the last elections. Regarding the protests, she said that Rama has asked several times to speak and clarify regarding the construction in Zvërnec.

She added that Prime Minister Rama has exhausted his public communication with the residents of Zvërnec. According to her, they have not seen the same willingness from the protesters, adding that citizens may be skeptical.

"We actually come from a day today where we had an extended meeting, actually a monthly one, as has now become a tradition. Every month we hold a more extended meeting than the ones we usually hold at the beginning of each week with the leader of our group, Mr. Taulant Balla. Of course, the protest could not be out of focus today. We shared everything with each other, thoughts, ideas. It was a very open discussion where everyone had their moment to say theirs.

However, if there is one thing that the entire parliamentary group is in unison about, it is the fact that we undoubtedly respect the protest and greatly value freedom of speech and action in it. But at no point do we actually see this protest as it has been discussed many times in the media or has actually been talked about in various television studios, where resignation could be an option or where early elections could be another option.

We are in the middle of a process that we promised the Albanians at least a year or so ago when we received 83 mandates. We are in the middle of a negotiation process with the European Union. Everything is going well and well in that regard.

You yourself have seen Albania's progress, not only in words in fact that we as representatives of the majority Socialist Party can say, but in fact what the European Union itself says. We are halfway to closing some of the most important chapters and we are running towards the target to be able to close them all by 2027. Therefore, we do not really see any reason to stop this step, to stop this challenge that we have with ourselves, with history and for which in fact the Albanians trusted us", she said, among other things.
