Prime Minister Edi Rama, after the swearing-in of the new governing cabinet, introduced the Minister of Interior, Albana Koçiu, the first woman to head this department.

Rama said that firefighters have been left in second place, while there was also criticism of the way the Police and the Ministry of Interior have operated so far.

The Prime Minister said that the Police was like the Interior Minister's squad.

"Firefighters have been left on the back burner, while the biggest problem that has emerged this summer and will likely be a central problem for years to come is fires. They have come to the forefront as an internal matter to be addressed with an appropriate approach, with an organization, and with forces that are newer every year."

Considering what Albania has been through, it is natural that the police were for many years like the interior minister's squad, a country that had over 100 murders a year, or a country where the reestablishment of the state police after that mess we started working on in 2013, made the state police the priority of priorities.

"The conditions are now ripe for us to make an important leap forward, because the parameters of public order have been consolidated within the norms, at least of the lower half of the classification table of EU countries," said Rama.
