Prime Minister Edi Rama has emphasized the excellent relations between Albania and Israel, underlining that they are based on a deep historical friendship between the Albanian and Jewish people, built over the centuries.

In a statement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu , Rama recalled that Albania has been a refuge for Jews fleeing persecution in Europe, describing their protection during the Holocaust as a unique historical legacy and a testament to the moral courage of previous generations.

"I want to emphasize once again that Albania and Israel share excellent relations that are rooted in the deep friendship between the Albanian and Jewish peoples, forged through centuries of history, when more than once, Jews fleeing persecution in the West came and settled on our shores. Albania's unique historical legacy in protecting Jews during the Holocaust makes this connection deeply special, and for me, for us, it is a testament to the moral courage of our grandparents, a testament that we must never forget and must do everything to pass on from generation to generation. The government is fully committed to celebrating this precious legacy from history and maintains a firm, clear and unwavering stance against anti-Semitism, both domestically and internationally," said Rama.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the Albanian government is fully committed to celebrating this important part of history and maintains a clear and unchanged stance against anti-Semitism, both domestically and in the international arena.

“Although the Albanian population, with a Muslim majority, joined in solidarity around the world with the suffering of the ordinary Palestinian people, during the war in Gaza, Albanians did not gather in hate rallies against Israel, nor did they project their anger at the terrible pain of the Palestinian people onto the increasing number of Jewish visitors to our country. This is in stark contrast to what has unfortunately happened in many other parts of Europe, where anti-Semitism has once again become a deeply disturbing presence. Our country stands steadfastly against anti-Semitism, just as it stands against Islamophobia. We clearly refuse to allow hatred or discrimination to guide our thinking, actions or relations with other peoples and countries,” the Prime Minister stressed.
