From the Delphi economic forum in Athens, Prime Minister Edi Rama expressed his dissatisfaction with the level of Greek investments in Albania, in the face of the opportunities and potential that exists.
"There is no need to be in the EU to increase relations with Greece. We don't have to wait. Greece has already turned its eyes to the region. A lot of time has been wasted in the past", said Rama.
Unlike similar forums in the past, Edi Rama spared criticism of the EU.
"We managed to open talks with the EU. We are devout in our love for the EU and do not give up easily. The EU is more pious now after the start of the war in Ukraine. Now there is a new spirit and I hope this will increase and not fade away. We are now talking with the EU. We are working with the EU every day. What the EU can bring to our countries is something we cannot invent. EU knowledge is deep and necessary for our countries in the Balkans, in building institutions. It is an irreplaceable expertise" , added Rama.
Asked about the effects of the war in Ukraine in the Balkan region, Edi Rama gave this answer.
"The Western Balkans has been part of wars and hatred. We are now in the best part of the region's history and that is thanks to the EU and the US. For centuries we did not speak to each other. Now the last 8-9 years we are talking. If we talk about the foreign policies of the Balkan countries, we have a mixed panorama. Albania is completely free of Russian influence. Kosovo is completely free of Russian influence. In Serbia and Bosnia we have a completely different panorama. Our relations with Russia are of a cold war", Rama emphasized.
Asked about the elections in Turkey, Edi Rama said that he is neutral but reminded the audience that he is a friend of President Erdogan, and if he answered, his answer would not be liked.
"With or without Erdogan, Turkey remains a factor of stability in Europe", declared Edi Rama.
The Albanian Prime Minister further said that only Kosovo and Albania do not have Russian influence in the region, while Serbia has its own reasons.
"The Kosovo-Serbia dialogue is still a big issue and the solution means closing a chapter forever. This is something very important and strategic, relations are much better than they were before, there is a lack of stability. It looks like the Russians want to light the fuse. When it comes to the geopolitics of the Western Balkans, we have a very complex relationship, Albania, Macedonia and Montenegro. Albania has nothing to do with Russian influence, while the other two are under Russian influence, while Serbia and Bosnia also have Russian influence, while Kosovo is like us. In Serbia, the Russian influence is up to 70% compared to Albania, which can be up to 1.2%. Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro have approved the sanctions, while Serbia has not, this could be a turning point. We have embraced the sanctions 100% and it is not a problem for us, while in the case of Serbia, the sanctions would translate into a lack of gas, so it is better to take steady steps towards the unification of the sanctions. We must keep in mind the fact that Vucic is in a difficult situation, not only him but whoever is in charge of Serbia, where Putin's popularity is greater than his, I think he is doing the right thing. We have supported Ukraine all along but we need to define what happens if Ukraine wins the war and as long as we don't have a precise definition we have to survive with the bloody and frozen destruction, this is something that can go on forever," Rama said. .
