Rama: The strategically "faded" EU needs Albanian Muslims, but also
Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama hosted iftar this evening in Tirana during the holy month of Ramadan, and during his speech, he delivered several strong messages.

Among other things, he stated that Albania's Muslims are not a problem, but rather an added value for being new members of the EU.

"This is a special iftar because the image of this iftar is the image of the beautiful Ballia Mosque in Elbasan that was awarded an international architecture award. Today, the Great Mosque of Namazgja has finally opened its doors in Tirana.

This traditional meal gives me a sense of joy and I can say that once again, I naively enjoy this moment of the glorious month of Ramadan when we are given the opportunity to feel good in faith in the goodness of faith, the triumph of kindness.

Life seems more beautiful and easier, while the ugliness of time seems more insignificant. Tonight I have brought the verses written by a young Albanian poet, Jolanda Kodra, who graduated in Italy.

"It is in the interest of this country to live on the roof of the house, where this nation has its foundations. Although in a few years the EU will have 60 million Muslims as its citizens, the population of the Muslim faith is several times higher than the Albanian Muslim population in the Balkans ," said Rama.

The Prime Minister emphasized that "Europe today needs as many loyal citizens and partners of the Islamic faith as possible, such as Albanian Muslims, but also for the 5 pillars of its wisdom to recover internationally and strengthen its geopolitical security."

He went even further, saying that Europe today needs Turkey and allies in the Middle East, as well as the countries of the Western Balkans.

"In its diminished strategic profile, Europe needs Turkey and other Middle Eastern allies more today than Turkey and its Middle Eastern allies need Europe today."

"For the same reasons, the EU needs the Balkan states and their partially Muslim and fully and radically European peoples today, just as much as we need the EU ," Rama said.
