The voting process for the local elections in all of Albania has ended. According to the preliminary data of the Central Election Commission, declared by its head Ilirian Celibashi, the participation in these votes was about 34%, the lowest historically, with the exception of 2019, when the elections were boycotted by the opposition and as a result, the participation was low, at 22.3%.

Celibashi said that these are preliminary data about 34%, for 3.2 million voters who have reported, out of 3.56 which is the total number of voters.

Throughout the day, surprisingly, the KEC reported participation from only half of the voting centers (out of 5,213 in total), although these were the most expensive elections due to investments in electronic equipment.

Of the 3.65 million Albanian citizens who had the right to vote, according to the official data of the CEC, if this percentage will be final, it is estimated that only 1.2 million people voted in today's elections, again the lowest historical number, with the exception of 2019. In the 2021 general elections, 1.66 million people voted and in the 2015 local elections, there were 1.61 million voters.

Since the 2000s, the percentage of participation in local elections has fluctuated between 45-50%, while in central elections it has been slightly higher, exceeding the level of 50%.

High emigration, which marked a revival in recent years, especially in 2022, is estimated to be one of the main factors that influenced this low turnout in the elections.

In three municipalities, Elbasan, Kamëz and Vorë, the counting will be electronic and is expected to be completed by Sunday evening.

In Vorë, the candidate of the Socialist Party is the winner, and in Kamëz, the candidate of the SP is leading.
