The Central Election Commission has decided to take a step towards depoliticizing the vote administration and counting process on May 11, removing political parties from counting diaspora votes.
The draft prepared by the CEC, which will be discussed on Monday, foresees that special structures will be established for the evaluation and counting of votes for the diaspora vote.
According to this draft, the External Vote Counting and Evaluation Commission and the External Vote Counting Groups will be composed of members appointed by the CEC, while the two major parties, the DP and the SP, will only have observers.
“The External Vote Counting and Evaluation Commission consists of three members appointed by the CEC, no later than 20 days before the election date. The largest party of the parliamentary majority and the largest party of the parliamentary minority have the right to appoint one observer member each.”
But it is learned that the CEC's proposal to depoliticize the process of counting emigrant votes is unacceptable to the opposition.
Sources close to the DP indicate that the same rules that the Electoral Code provides for the administration and counting of votes of Albanians living within the country must be observed for the diaspora vote.
The DP draws attention to the fact that the code is clear. The Zonal Electoral Administration Commission consists of representatives of the majority and the opposition, and the counting groups also have one representative from the largest majority party, one from the second majority party, and one from the largest opposition party and one from the second opposition party; therefore, this rule should also be applied to the diaspora vote, which will be implemented for the first time in the parliamentary elections on May 11./vizionplus.tv
