The 35th anniversary celebration of the SP branch in Tirana took place this afternoon at the Palace of Congresses.
During the activity, prominent figures from the early days of the Socialist Party were also honored.
Among those awarded gold medals were figures such as former president, Rexhep Mejdani, the first chairman of the SP parliamentary group, Namik Dokle, former prime minister Ylli Bufi, former SP chairmen in Tirana, Musa Ulqini, Halil Lalaj and Besnik Baraj, as well as former deputies and founders of the SP, Valentina Leskaj, Anastas Agjeli, Hamdi Jupe, Maqo Lakrori, Luan Shaullari and Sajmira Pino.
Rexhep Meidani was awarded a gold medal, who in his role as president stood out and brought to politics the maturity of an academic, the seriousness of a statesman, and trust in institutions. Today we honor his outstanding contribution to the development of democracy.
"I hope that the Socialist Party will lead Albania to the models we have in the Nordic countries, which even the famous American senator Bernie Sanders wants to develop in America, and we want it in Albania," said former president Meidani.
Ethem Ruka, former SP MP in 5 legislatures and former minister, received the gold medal for his contribution to the establishment of the SP.
"This hall today is very beautiful. I don't know how many emotions we have shared in this hall from 1991 to today. Many thanks to the socialists of Tirana who appreciate courageous figures in the difficult years and raised this progressive political force that brought Albania to where it is today," said former SP MP Ethem Ruka.
Namik Dokle, the first chairman of the SP parliamentary group, was also awarded a medal by the Minister of Economy, Delina Ibrahimaj, for his contribution to the beginnings of the SP.
"It seems to me a wonderful evening of socialists from all over Albania. 35 years ago, in this hall, the Socialist Party was founded with a clear mission and a big dream. We who started politics at that time did not have a political school, but we had idealism. I had the honor of leading the first group of the Socialist Party, an extraordinary group, where I had 9 professors from all branches. Ideals remain, ideas change, transform and some are perhaps even forgotten, but the essence of the Socialist Party remains forever and that essence is in its letters, SP which means progress and solidarity. I saw this medal and said how beautiful it was, Blendi Klosi showed it to me and I said there was no way it could not be beautiful because the one who designed this medal also designed Albania, Edi Rana", said the first chairman of the Socialist Party parliamentary group, Namik Dokle.
Ylli Bufi was also awarded a gold medal as an important figure of the transition in Albania, especially for his role in institutional stabilization in 1991 and in the first processes of economic reforms as prime minister.
"I believe that every political force can rise to the level of its political mission if it knows how to rely on the inherited experience. Today, I and my friends from the early years are proud of the path followed and everything that has been achieved. There are many things to feel proud of, but I want to highlight the fact that Albanians voted for the Socialist Party from the moment they realized that it could be a governing alternative for the people's progress, an alternative that put Albania on the path of rapid development and is crowning it with the historic objective of joining the European family," said former Prime Minister Ylli Bufi.
Valentina Leskaj, a SP MP for 4 legislatures and former chairwoman of the SP parliamentary group, was awarded a medal by Minister Adea Pirdeni for being a dignified model of women in Albanian politics.
"I feel honored to be here with the socialists of Tirana who have given their voice to the SP throughout Albania throughout all times. The SP is today the largest and most powerful force in Albania, it has a strong mandate, undoubtedly thanks to the work of the socialists, but also thanks to the Albanians who are not here, but contributed with their votes," said the former chairwoman of the SP parliamentary group, Valentina Leskaj.
Besnik Baraj was awarded a gold medal by Fatmir Xhafaj for his contribution as the leader of the Socialist Party in Tirana for many years, as well as as a member of parliament for several legislatures in the Albanian Parliament.
"I am privileged to be part of you, that we have gone through so many battles together. It took a lot of work and effort to realize this Albanian reality today, which has come about thanks to the unceasing work of the SP and its leadership," said the former leader of the SP Tirana, Besnik Baraj.
Hamdi Jupe was awarded a medal by the Minister of Tourism, Blendi Gonxhe, one of the founders of the Socialist Party, engaged in one of the most difficult sectors of the transition, that of the media.
"In my pocket for 35 years, the PS card signed in 1991 by the legendary chairman Fatos Nano has been sitting. It gave me the number 52, which means that I was the 52nd member of the party. Today, the number 52 is multiplied by 20 thousand. That card has become a second identity card for me, I keep it because it is a symbol of war, hope and victories," said former MP Hamdi Jupe.
Anastas Anxheli received the medal from his colleague in the Economy Committee, Erion Braçe, for his contribution to the Albanian economy.
"This hall, even today, after 35 years, regains strength to move forward from victory to victory. In the last 15 years, with Edi Rama at the helm, we have had a transformation of Albania, a transformation that will not stop until the country's integration into the EU," said academic Anastas Anxheli.
Maqo Lakrori was also awarded a gold medal for his contribution as a founder of the Socialist Party and as a member of parliament in 3 legislatures, mainly in the field of higher education.
"Gratitude for those 10 thousand girls and boys who managed to establish the Socialist Party 35 years ago. The strength of our party stems from the justice of its cause, which is solidarity, the welfare state, integration with the developed West and the contribution to solving national issues," said former socialist MP, Maqo Lakrori.
Halil Lalaj, the first chairman of the Socialist Party in Tirana, received the gold medal from Socialist MP Anila Denaj, for his contribution to strengthening the political organization and representing the values of the Socialist Party.

"I grew up in the SP. The greatest contribution of the socialists of the capital was creating a new opposition by changing and modernizing. Today the challenge is to become part of the EU, with standards, Edi Rama's vision is a guarantee that together with your work we will achieve this goal", said the SP deputy in 7 legislatures, Musa Ulqini.

Saemira Pino received the medal from former Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha for her contribution to organizing socialist women and increasing their role in politics.
"I will speak briefly because Musai took up our time. But I cannot help but say that I am very happy to see a hall full of girls and young women and I say that I have the source in the solidarity between generations and the progress that the Socialist Party always makes," said former socialist MP, Saemira Pino.
