The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, described the construction of the Jewish Museum in Vlora as positive, while declaring that the DP does not agree with any anti-Semitic stance.
"The Democratic Party is a party of religious tolerance and infinite respect. It absolutely does not agree with any anti-Semitic stance. Nor with other anti-religions," Berisha said.
He praised the role of Albanians in protecting Jews during World War II and the historical coexistence between the two communities.
"Since they had their own block, their own area where those families lived, a museum is being built in memory of this history. I call it positive," said the leader of the Democratic Party.
Berisha opposed the intervention in the historic building of the "Labëria" association, demanding that it not be touched.
"That building should not be touched. That building is historic, it has first-class protection. It is reinforced to withstand time," he declared.
Asked about the method of selecting Democratic Party candidates for mayor, Berisha spoke in favor of primaries, but with a preliminary selection process.
"Personally, I am for primaries. Let's be open. But what is missing from our primaries? Our primaries lack selection ," said Berisha.
According to him, within the DP there are ideas for selecting candidates without primaries and ideas for holding primaries with selection.
"At the moment, there are ideas without primaries, there are ideas for primaries with selection, and I am more in favor of the latter," Berisha concluded.
