The Ministry of Justice reacted after the online publication of a photo of former minister Saimir Tahiri from the prison cell in Kosovo in Lushnja, where he is seen having lunch with Kelmend Balili and Safet Bajrin, known names of the criminal underworld.

The Justice Ministry says the three celebrities and a fourth who has not been identified as who they are were accommodated in the same sector of the prison, where food is served in rooms.

As for the claims that they were drinking wine, the ministry says in its response that "it is obvious" that they are drinking water and soft drinks.

The photo was taken by a prison employee.

"The photograph in question was part of several photographs taken by the personnel of the IEV "Kosovo of Lushnja", during the follow-up of a normal day in the Institution, in accordance with the applicable regulations" reads the reaction.

Public opinion clarification!

We would like to inform you that the persons in the photograph, at the time of this photo being taken, were serving the sentence with the status of 'prisoner' in the IEVP 'Kosovo of Lushnje'.

These prisoners have been accommodated in the same sector and it is important to note that in this EEU, food is always served in the condemned rooms, as there is no special environment (collective menu) for eating food, but is consumed only in their rooms.

Regarding the claims of alcoholic beverages, it is notable that there are bottles of water on the table, as well as glasses of refreshments.

In no case has there been any violations, and under regulations, the consumption of wine or alcoholic beverages is prohibited in all EEPs in our country.

The photograph in question was part of several photographs taken by the staff of the IEV "Kosovo of Lushnja", during the follow-up of a normal day at the Institution, in accordance with the applicable regulations.

At the same time, we want to make known that this institution is monitored by the WSC and monitoring mechanisms all the time.
