The Minister of Defense Pirro Vengu has inspected this Tuesday the Mechanical Plant in Gramsh, once the main source of supplying the army with locally produced weapons.
In the announcement of the Ministry of Defense, it is emphasized that the focus is also on the Mechanical Plant in Poliçan, currently out of order, but once a valuable asset of the Military Industry.
The reawakening of factories and plants is expected to be done with a new management formula through a state commercial company, which will lead the process of re-establishing the Defense Industry. The company will take over the assets of the state-owned enterprises, while the current workforce will continue working relationships under a new and promising perspective", the announcement of the Ministry of Defense states.
"The modernization of the Armed Forces, the expansion of capacities and the development of the Military Industry are among the main priorities of the Albanian government and the Ministry of Defense. Work has begun on the project that restores the Military Industry to the center of gravity with the restoration of some of the factories closely connected to the chain of production of military goods.
The Minister of Defense Pirro Vengu closely inspected the Mechanical Plant in Gramsh, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Defense Dorian Tola and the Mayor Besion Ajazi, to personally assess the current situation and the advantages that this plant provides, both in terms of human capacities and infrastructural ones. Once the plant was the main source of supplying the army with domestically produced weapons, while after the 90s its activity came to be reduced focusing on the demilitarization process of small arms.
In the focus of the Ministry of Defense is also the Mechanical Plant in Poliçan, currently out of operation, but once a valuable asset of the Military Industry due to its history, strategic position and favorable infrastructure. Poliçani will be part of the strategy of the Albanian government for revitalizing the defense industry to attract important investments from the private sector, which can return it to an important asset for the support of the Armed Forces and the expansion of production capacities for purposes military and civil.
The reawakening of factories and plants is expected to be done with a new management formula through a state commercial company, which will lead the process of re-establishing the Defense Industry. The company will take over the assets of the state-owned enterprises, while the current workforce will continue working relationships under a new and promising perspective. The state commercial company has as its object of activity the design, production, repair, demilitarization and trade, inside and outside the country, of weapons, ammunition, technologies and military equipment, as well as any activity related to this activity, in function of the national policies of Security and Defense and increasing Defense capacities. On the other hand, the revitalization of this sector is expected to contribute to the increase in employment and the economic development of the country", concludes the announcement of the Ministry of Defense.
