Minister Blendi Gonxhja: Albania today is better than ever before, we cannot

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, spoke today after the government meeting about the protests taking place in Tirana.

During his speech, Gonxha said that during the SP government, Albania has made great strides forward.

Gonxha further said that the socialist government should not resign and abandon the work that has been started.

According to Minister Gonxha, the high level of expectations of citizens today does not match reality. However, according to him, this does not mean that everything achieved over the years should be discarded.

"I myself am very connected, both historically and spiritually, to the protest as an institution. I have been very careful, in many of my appearances, about how we are analyzing, how we are reflecting, in every aspect."

Let's do everything possible to create a decision-making process in the country that is not only the best for our citizens, but also as close as possible to the standards of what Albania is in the EU. We can be even more critical of ourselves.

Now, to leave everything in the middle and for everyone to give up everything without knowing what is being proposed goes beyond me as Blend, goes beyond me as a minister. We have many responsibilities towards the citizens, towards the country, towards a contract that we represent here. It is in self-respect, in protest, that we behave responsibly towards those who voted for us.

We must respect the will of all citizens. Only in this way can we think that we can have a better result. There is no possibility that we can have a perfect Albania suddenly, immediately and in so few years of a period when the SP, when many institutions that have trusted the SP have gone through challenges that you know very well.

We can say out loud that the mandates we have passed have been influenced and conditioned by the earthquake, the pandemic. It has taken years and years for us to try to overcome, to cope with one of the most difficult situations the world has ever experienced.

"Albania has overcome these situations, Albania is standing today, Albania is better than ever before. But the very high level of expectations of citizens does not match reality, but this would not justify the rejection of everything done in these years," Gonxha said, among other things.
