MP Erion Braçe has reacted sharply to the 'stratospheric' prices of fruits and vegetables in Tirana.
In a reaction on social media, while pointing out the high prices, he says that these fruits and vegetables are seasonal, which should normally have fair prices, while calling for emergency intervention against these abuses.
The MP also makes several proposals, starting with the dissolution of the Agro-Food Market in Tirana, owned by the company of entrepreneur Klodian Allajbeu, according to whom tariff abuse has increased the costs of products.
Second, he says there should be public markets for farmers, not traders, who would be able to sell their produce without the costs of abusive middlemen.
Third, it requires the equalization of domestic VAT, as the current scheme makes products up to 20% more expensive.
Fourth, Brace says there should be rent controls on commercial premises.
"The dismantling of the Highway Market. The abuse of tariffs there is scandalous and increases the cost of every product; The opening of public markets to farmers - not traders; Farmers to sell their production without the costs of abusive intermediaries; The equalization of internal VAT; in the current scheme, products become up to 20% more expensive in vain; Fiscalization from the farmer to the final buyer as for every product," the MP writes.
Another component he mentions is the focus on production in fields rather than greenhouses.
The MP also calls for increased attention to climate change, which has affected agricultural production.
"We are not dealing with climate change and adapting and protecting production to these changes. It seems like a great inconvenience to talk about, let alone turn it around - it's God's work, and the inconvenience is paid for with expensive, unfair prices on the market," the MP wrote.
