The government is creating a new agency that will be responsible for checking whether state officials abuse people in prisons or on probation.

Although the initiative promises more security for prisoners, for the Freedom Party it is "a flagrant violation."

From the Laws Committee, Tedi Blushi said that the project is propaganda, and has no connection on the ground with the promised European standards.

"In the case of Mr. Meta, the denigrating treatment continues even in terms of the fact that he is denied the right to go out for air twice a day, as is enabled and granted to all other detainees. So, why this criminal treatment of the former President of the Republic?" said Blushi.

Through social networks, Ilir Meta from his cell asked several specific questions, raising doubts about the treatment of individuals in prisons.

"How many hours of electricity is there really in this high-security prison and how often are the "lights" cut off? How many hours of water do the detainees and prisoners have? Why was the only means of entertainment, a volleyball court, destroyed? Let the guards ask: what are their real salaries? Are they paid for overtime? Do they receive the food they are entitled to by law? Have they received a bonus at the end of the year? Do the detainees and prisoners suffering from various diseases receive proper health treatment? And why have dozens of citizens lost their lives in Albanian prisons?", writes Meta.

Ilir Meta bases his complaints on a report that the Ombudsman has issued in his favor, and underlines that the Prisons have not allowed him to meet with two opposition MPs.
