Meloni: Rama and Albania, the target of a smear campaign

Georgia Meloni: I would like to say that I am happy to be here, that I had the opportunity to meet you, that Rama had the opportunity to closely verify the situation of the works that are being carried out within the framework of the signed agreement.

I would like to say, as we saw and heard from Rama, that our countries are two friendly countries, countries that have historically cooperated together. I thank Prime Minister Rama and the Albanian people again for the help they gave us to realize this agreement, which I hope will be an example for the EU.

All I have to do is repeat the closeness of the Italian people to Rama, for the attacks that have been made against him. We have followed a denigrating campaign against the Albanian government, we have also heard labels as if it is a drug state, because it is not the first time that the Albanian government offers help. Even before, Albania's history has shown that it has had a sincere desire to be part of the EU and has never lacked Italy's support for this. I remember that in the most dramatic days of Covid, Albania helped us with 30 doctors in Lombardy.

Rama was thanked for this and one of the Italian newspapers called it a beautiful tale of the Albanian prime minister and Rama is called a criminal because a lot has changed since the government decided to continue cooperation with the new Albanian government.
