The head of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, said in an interview to Euronews Albania that it is the principle that anyone who has been an associate of the security should not be in high positions of the state.
But he clarified that the issue of the state security files is being used politically and that the Assembly has not yet voted a resolution to punish the crimes of communism.
The media objected to the opening of files for the politically persecuted.
"I do not accept hypocrisy from any party that comes. What is worse is the lack of morality that mocks the politically persecuted. "Opening the files for the politically persecuted is not unacceptable, knowing their history and ordeal, the manipulation done by the state security," said Mediu.
He underlined that in the next local elections, the opposition must enter with a candidate.
"I have not had a discussion with him about this issue, together with other colleagues we have tried to see the way of an organization because the elections before us have two levels, there is a level for the municipalities that the opposition must have a candidate. The idea of primaries does not work simply and only within a political party", said Mediu.
Moderator Sidorela Gjoni asks him if, after all these years in politics, he knew that Ilir Meta had a name with a "J" at the end.
The medium avoids the concrete answer saying: "These are some details that are unimportant, I said that I will judge the attitude with the colleagues of the group.
The Republican Party has been in support of the politically persecuted and in this view the supporters of the State Security must bear responsibility.
That's why it's good for those institutions that have responsibility for this issue to speak."
