Closing negotiations with the European Union by 2027 is one of the promises that the country's Prime Minister Edi Rama has been articulating in recent days as he presents the candidates for the May 11 elections.

But his statements were reinforced today from Slovenia by Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos.

In an interview for Slovenian radio and television, speaking about the priorities of the European Commission, she said that during her mandate, there are two countries that will conclude negotiations, Montenegro and Albania.

"Two countries from the Western Balkans are at the forefront of the EU accession process. Montenegro is ranked first, a country with which negotiations could be concluded by the end of 2026. Albania is in second place and I believe it can cross the finish line to close negotiations by the end of 2027," Kos said.

In this regard, Commissioner Kos said that the final decision will be taken by the EU member states.

"I am aware of the extraordinary importance of communication because I cannot imagine that after all the negotiations are completed, a member state would say no, we do not want that country in the European Union, so I am optimistic for both vanguard states, Albania and Montenegro," adds Kos.

Kos also gave positive signals for Albania during her first visit as commissioner to Tirana a few weeks ago, where she praised Albania's path to integration and the support of 1 billion euros for reforms in Albania.
