Albania could be part of the European family by 2029.
If the government continues with reforms, membership will be a reality in 2029, said Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, during the Bled Forum in Slovenia.
"We have opened two more group chapters with Albania and we have agreed with Ed that we will celebrate, first in Brussels and secondly next year with the football match between member countries and candidate countries in Tirana and where it is understood that the President of UEFA will play with us, and so will some others. In 2028 we can have 28 members. And if Ed continues to do what he is doing excellently, then in 2029 we can have 29 members. However, I don't have much time, I only have four years, so hurry up.
"With Montenegro we are moving forward and it is possible that if we finish the technical aspects of the negotiations in 2026, in 2028 we could have 28 EU members. And if Edi continues to do what he is doing excellently, then in 2029 we could have 29 members. So hurry up," Kos said.
