The head of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has described the 'Open Balkan' initiative, which includes Albania, Serbia and North Macedonia, as an open opportunity for crime and drugs.
Speaking in a conversation with experts and journalists about the public order situation in Albania, Berisha said that this alliance, as much as it constitutes an undeniable problem for national security, is as much a problem for order, security and the fight against crime.
"In all the problems of a society, a country, a nation, the first and most important problem remains the problem of security, national, legal, order, life, property, activity, of citizens and society as a whole.
In many respects, what has been more seriously damaged, which has rolled over more, which has turned into a major danger, for the Albanian citizen, society, our nation, is directly related to security issues. Today we are a member country of NATO. By definition, we cannot have threats to national security, because the alliance has its treaty, its articles, but also the recent commitment of President Joe Biden, that an inch is being touched on the territories of NATO member countries, the alliance will react as a whole.
What is very disturbing is an open attempt by Edi Rama to align Albania, a NATO member country, with Serbia, which at all times since it became independent until today, is known as Russia. Small. In this context, I have to say that if Albania should have been the first to oppose a project, it is actually Kosovo, the government of Kosovo, which has become one of the main factors in halving this project, or turning this project into a trilateral alliance Belgrade-Skopje-Pristina.
In fact, this alliance is as much an undeniable problem for national security as it is a problem for order, security and the fight against crime. The most powerful gangs in the Balkans are moving and operating on this axis. There was Bjellivuk, here are the other Bjellivuks, but in a way the 'Open Balkan' is a Balkan open to crime, drugs, and insecurity," accused Berisha.
