The Secretary General of the Democratic Party, Flamur Noka, in his speech in the Assembly, declared that May 11 was an electoral farce and that the power of the majority has no legitimacy as long as it is not based on the vote and will of the citizens.
"May 11 was an electoral farce. Majority rule has no legitimacy as long as it does not stem from the vote and will of the citizens," Noka declared, accusing the government of seizing institutions and attempting to cover up the lack of democracy with a formal facade.
According to him, the electoral process did not represent a true competition between alternatives, but an unequal confrontation where the opposition was pitted against the entire state apparatus, supported by criminal groups.
"Democracy has been mutilated by your will and that of your 'sultan.' What remains is only a facade, while the foundations of your power rest on an alienated vote," Noka said.
He accused the government of institutionalizing the "vote market," comparing the electoral process to livestock markets in the country's cities.
"You turned May 11 into a vote market. In every city, where there used to be an animal market, you built vote markets, where freedom and choice were sold and bought in the most shameful way," he concluded.
