Electronic voting in the upcoming elections is being held hostage by political parties.
The CEC has proposed the districts of Durres and Elbasan, but out of 10 parties that have been asked for their opinion, only 1 has expressed their opinion.
Only LZHK has submitted this letter, where it requests that in addition to the two districts proposed by Celibashi, the one of Tirana be added, as the largest district in the country.
"Tirana offers logistical and human convenience due to the terrain, road infrastructure and CEC offices, which are located in Tirana.
Tirana was the first to carry out the pilot model of electronic identification, voting and counting in the 2021 elections, unit 10, which was successful.
Electronic voting and counting in Tirana makes it easier to process the final result and offers a fair electoral process, avoiding political commissioners who create delays in the process due to fatigue or tensions between the parties", says the letter of the LZHK sent CEC.
PD as the largest opposition party has not consolidated a position. She has been skeptical about this form of voting, especially after the last local elections, because she believes that the ruling party scares the voters by spreading the message that the electronic vote is read.
The CEC is waiting for opinions from the parties until the end of this week, before making a decision.
The application in only 2 districts is a contraction of the initial idea of the CEC, which believed that with 35 million euros it could do electronic voting in the 5 largest districts of the country.
The idea was burned because the parties did not give "OK" in time.
Electronic voting and counting was piloted for the first time in unit 10 in Tirana in the elections of 2021, while in the premises of 2023 it was extended to the municipalities of Elbasan, Vorë and Kamze.
It really cost millions of euros, making the electoral process more expensive, but it brought a quick result, immediately after the closing of the voting, avoiding long hours of counting and conflicts.
