Running as an independent, Rama asks former socialist Gjergj Merkuri to withdraw
Edi Rama

Prime Minister Edi Rama held a meeting with the citizens of Saranda this evening, as part of the electoral campaign for the May 14 local elections, where he presented the socialist candidate Olti Çaçin.

During his speech, Rama said that they chose Çaçi for two reasons, one because he is one of the most successful people in the tourism industry and that, according to Rama, he is a regular taxpayer in this sector. Rama said that Olti Çaçi asked them to enter the competition with the belief that we will further the development of Saranda.

but to be much more aggressive in relation to problems and much more persistent in relation to work than the doctor. This is what we need. I don't pay any attention to the doctor, to get here we needed the doctor, to get from here Olti came. We asked for it, not him. This is very important", Rama said.

The leading socialist had a message for the independent candidate Gjergj Merkuri, who was previously part of the Socialist Party. Due to debates within the base, Mekuri entered the race as an independent candidate, while today Rama asked him to withdraw from the campaign.

Rama called on the citizens not to vote outside the ranks of the socialists, while he told Merkur to stop the campaign and after May 14 to sit at the table and talk about reuniting. The head of the government said that he knows that Gjergj Merkuri has fallen on the neck of the SP in Saranda, but according to him, this is not the solution that Gjergji has chosen, which only his opponents enjoy.

"Gjergj Merkuri is an idealistic boy, an honest, fair boy. Gjegj Merkur, people here from SP have fallen on his neck and made a very big mistake. That's no reason to do what Stefani never does. This is not a reason to go across the street and ask for votes that harm the SP in this battle. There is no one here who is in this square, there is no one here who is not in this square and who does not want to go back, who agrees with what George is currently doing. Hatermebata is not a good adviser. Even less then, going out on the other side of the road despite having fallen on your neck. They have fallen on Gjergji's neck, but now Gjergji should not fall on the neck of the entire SP, all those who are here and above all if no one is happy for what Gjergji does, it is the others who are happy. So I would invite him to find the reason within himself and if for one reason or another it is impossible for him to lower his head, at least end the campaign. He should close the campaign and wait for the end of the campaign on May 14, wait for the victory of Olti and the SP and then return to the SP to sit at the table and discuss things. Those who have fallen on their necks should accept the guilt, Gjegji should accept the guilt of what he is doing. Let's unite and move forward. In the meantime, to all those who have told Gjergji to move on because we will come after you, who are leftists and who love Saranda, I say help Gjergji to close the campaign and there is only one direction on May 14, the direction is to our candidate and to SP. Anything else is a big mistake that for a man like Gjergji becomes a fault. I understand George well, I also understand those who have reason to be confused. In our offices in the cities we have people we are not proud of, those people are not only not worthy of the SP, of the citizens, but those people are a reason for all of us to blush. But the solution is not what Gjergji has found together with those who support him. The solution is to continue to persevere here together and improve things together, because once again we are turning our heads back.", Rama said.
