The law of war that Greece has had with Albania since November 10, 1940 is also the reason for Prime Minister Edi Rama still keeping a number of issues with Athens unresolved, including the maritime agreement.

In an interview given to "Mega" television, Rama calls for its removal as soon as possible, as the only obstacle to normal relations between the two neighboring countries.

“What we discussed, and both I and your Prime Minister have said from the beginning, is that we need to clarify all the unresolved issues from the past, and this is one of them. The state of war is very important for us. The definition of the maritime zone is a special issue. And one that we need to resolve. We have an expression that says that when you make the bed, you can burn all the covers for a mushroom. I think the moment has been lost, because we made a very good start when Kyriakos came to power. It was a very good start. We had a common perspective on the long history and the importance of our relationship, and of course I wanted to move forward with some unresolved issues. We give a lot of weight to the conclusion of this absurd law on war between us. Because, you know, legally we are at war ,” Rama said during the interview.

Despite the Greek journalist's insistence that the law was repealed in 1987 by his country's government, Edi Rama insisted that it is still in force.

"No, it has not been repealed, but it should be repealed. What actually happened is that we signed a treaty of friendship. Yes, but the law is still in force. So, we have a treaty that makes us very close friends, while legally we are at war. This is the somewhat schizophrenic relationship that we have as neighbors ," Rama stressed.

To the question of whether Tirana has a deadline for reaching a compromise regarding the maritime agreement, Prime Minister Rama responds with the agreement that his government reached with neighboring Italy for another pact, that of immigrants.

"It's about both sides sitting down and working together and not allowing themselves to be distracted by the things that have held us hostage for so long. We made an agreement with the Prime Minister of Italy, Ms. Meloni, on the refugee issue. They asked if it was possible and we said 'yes'," Rama declared.

In an interview given to "Mega" television, Prime Minister Rama does not rule out the possibility of a visit to Athens. He also spoke about our country's European perspective, the parliamentary elections of May 11, and foreign investments, including that of Jared Kushner, as a strategic investor in the island of Sazan.
