Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha seeks freedom in the Special Court of Appeal. Through his two lawyers, Genc Gjokutaj and Sokol Mêngjesi, the democratic leader appealed this Wednesday the decision of the First Instance that left him under "house arrest".

This move by the former prime minister comes before the Special Court clarifies the reasoned decision that changed the security measure from "mandatory appearance" to the current one of "house arrest", as well as within the 5-day appeal deadline.

The tightening of the security measure for Berisha was requested by SPAK with the argument that the former Prime Minister did not implement the decision that forced him to appear before the judicial police given by the same court in October of this year.

SPAK is investigating Berisha with suspicions that he was involved in corruption in the privatization procedure of the former Partizani complex.

An accusation which has been denied by the former Prime Minister who considers the investigation against him to be political. His son-in-law Jamarbër Malltezi is also under house arrest for the same issue.
