The military intelligence of a quasi-partner state with Albania was monitoring the route of a ship departing from the ports of Oman at the beginning of August. The destination was Porto-Romano in Durrës, it was expected to arrive on August 15, 2024, but suddenly the ship slowed down its course towards Durrës, Albania had become news in Bloomberg. The news was about a quantity of suspected dangerous substance that was going from Kurumi in Elbasan, towards Thailand.

It seems that the international news had its effect and the ship loaded in Oman, booked in Dubai and invoiced by the Kurumi of Elbasan, seems to have received a second order not to approach Durrës and Porto Romano for some time.

Hashtag.al has learned from reserved and exclusive sources that what appears at first glance to be a play for informal waste disposal from Kurumi, is in fact suspected of hiding a market line (dumping, processing, landfilling) that includes Iran-Turkey and Albania, in order to ease the sanctions that have punished the Iranian heavy industry, including the military one.

Hashtag.al learned that the vessel in question is under continuous surveillance, according to the same source, this line that implicates the Kurum company and the Albanian state has been operating for several years.

A voluminous package of documents obtained by Hashtag.al suggest that since at least 2022, the military intelligence of quasi-partner states has uncovered a corridor that allegedly favors Iranian heavy industry, including the military.

The documents suggest that the cargo of industrial scrap ordered by Kurum in 2022 was purchased (on paper) in Oman, while the cargo safety certificates were all produced in Istanbul, Turkey. The forwarding and transportation was covered by an obscure company registered in Dubai.

"This line has been operating for several years, we know concretely which persons do the coordination in Iran. They are two Turkish citizens named Yucel AKSU and Koray Zeytinoglu. These two command the entire corridor as far as logistics are concerned," the source told Hashtag.al.

The context of events

Due to cultural ties and state interest, Iran has for years coordinated with the Turkish state on various informal business channels, mainly heavy industry (including military), international shipping and gold trade.

After the 2016 coup in Turkey, Erdogan became paranoid with international leaders, mainly Obama, Merkel and Natayah.

This paranoia of Erdogan accidentally gave value to Edi Rama in Tirana.

Since Western leaders also had work to do and cooperate with Turkey, they needed a trusted channel of communication.

Edi Rama has served as Erdogan's "back-channel" and this accident in 2016 influenced the strengthening of the relationship between them.

But it seems that this connection "has its tail back" and the Turkish industry stationed in Elbasan is suspected of being involved in the business corridor, Kurum is under surveillance as a company involved in easing the embargo on Iranian heavy industry.

But if Kurum is a Turkish brand and the responsibility of the Turkish state, ports and border security are Albania's responsibility.

If the countries that are documenting the operation of this line decide to launch a legal procedure, it would not be surprising that Porto Romano would be internationally sanctioned as a port.

While the Hashtag.al source adds:
