Fatmir Xhafaj Claims about SPAK control are speculations

The Socialists and Democrats agreed in the new regulation that the head of SPAK should no longer make the annual report in the Assembly hall and in front of 140 MPs, but only in two parliamentary committees, one of which is the one headed by Fatmir Xhafaj.

Regarding this change, the chairman of the committee for the oversight of institutions, including the judiciary, stated that the goal is not to violate independence, but rather the right of parliament to exercise control over their proper functioning, which includes SPAK.

The opposition, which boycotted the so-called "Xhafaj" commission in the last legislature, listed its demands.

At the roundtable where Fatmir Xhafaj clarified the parliament's intention to strengthen control over the government and independent institutions, including those of justice, the Dutch ambassador to Tirana outlined the conditions that lead Albania to the European Union.

"The success of EU integration will be measured by the strength of democratic institutions, the trust that citizens have in them, and the ability of these institutions to serve the public interest in a transparent manner. Parliament must exercise real control."
