Prime Minister Edi Rama will have a private dinner tonight with the American ambassador, Yuri Kim.
The dinner will be at 21.00 at the residence of the American embassy in Tirana, sources inform Vox News.
The dinner between Rama and the American diplomat takes place on the very day when the former mayor of Durrës, Vangjush Dako, was arrested by SPAK, declared non grata for corruption by Washington.
In July 2019, the US State Department declared him "Non Grata", barring him and his family from entering the United States of America.
After the issuance of the arrest warrant by SPAK, Vangjush Dako surrendered today to the Police Directorate of Tirana.
Dako is accused of abuse of office in two cases. The first case is related to the permission to build a palace in Durrës.
The second case is related to a tender for the purchase of a project made by the Municipality of Durrës in 2014-2015 with an initial value of 20 million ALL and then doubled to the old 220 million ALL. In the specific case, SPAK accuses Dako of abuse of power since they did not enter the procurement procedure, but the municipality has doubled the value.
As for the construction permit of the building, the investigation into the case started about 1 year ago after a complaint made by the residents of this building.
