"Even the dead danced for joy", Rama message from the new NATO base:
Edi Rama

The Prime Minister, Edi Rama, during his speech from the inauguration ceremony of the NATO air base in Kuçovo, said that this point is a strategic point of the region and the alliance.

" I am here as a representative of another generation that saw the democratic changes. I am referring to a fragment of the People's Voice in May 1954 when the leader of the Soviet Union came to Albania.

The newspaper wrote : " the dead were crying out of joy and the flowers that May had bloomed earlier to welcome Khrushchev" .

At that time, Albania, on this base that reopens today, was considered a strategic location of the Soviet empire vis-a-vis the Western world.

A considerable number of bombers were stationed here in Kuçovo. The war would start with the bombing of Vienna, Stuttgart. Today we are on the other side.

Albania welcomes its allies and partners in an alliance that is an alliance of values in defense of peace and democracy.

I am happy today that here are friends, partners allies and I wanted to thank them. I wanted to thank the interior minister of Italy, who has also taken fighter planes with him" , said Rama .
