Historian Pëllumb Xhufi discussed the issue of Himara, as he clashed with the representative of the Greek minority in Albania, Vangjel Dule.

In the show "Zone Zero" on Top News, Dule stated that nationality is a matter of feeling, and it is up to everyone to declare for themselves what nationality they belong to.

But Xhufi has maintained a completely opposite position, saying that the question of nationality belongs to many circumstances that are determined by historical facts, and that in the case of Himara he has shown that over the centuries they have been identified as Albanians.

Dule went even further, saying that the genocide and massacres against the defenseless population of Chameria were "the hack they took at that moment in history, after the end of the war".

Excerpts from the debate between Xhufi and Dules:

Pellumb Xhufi: Undoubtedly, the Greek government has used this case, even to use the problem of Himara, they themselves have accepted such a thing. Beleri itself, in my opinion, is one of those provocations that Greece has repeatedly made with Albania. In his case, it is the last opportunity before Albania becomes part of the EU, for Himara to be called a Greek minority. As historians, we get goosebumps when we hear such things, because Himara has been one of the heartlands of Albania. The foci of Albanianism have moved constantly, it has been Kurja, Korça... and Himara.

Vangjel Dule: Himara is a small country geographically but with a great and glorious history. Himara was especially important in the time of the Ottoman Empire, because of its heroic battles. Himara in particular historical periods has had a neuralgic importance, the communications with Venice, Spain, Russia are evidence... We must not forget the history of the post-World War II. Himara resisted the establishment of the communist regime by vote. But on the other hand, we also have the battle after the 90s. As a right of choice, it is not the first time with Beler. It makes your hair stand on end that they self-identify as Greek.

Vangjel Dule: We should not come up with non-existent theses. The victors of the Second World War gave each a hack according to their positive and negative contribution to that moment in history. Anyone who has felt injustice has had the opportunity to animate them.

Pëllumb Xhufi: Today, Albania is considered in world texts as one of the four countries that made the greatest resistance to the Nazi-fascists. Another historian puts Albania in the countries that have had more victims, even more than Russia in relation to the population. They did not support Greece on the "vorio epiris" issue. The borders of Albania after the 13th have never been questioned. In this respect, let's not play with history. Mitsotakis demanded that in Albania all those who felt Greek be called minorities. But no one allowed him that nationality is a matter of fate. This was one of his 6 points. We are a rare country that has protected minority rights since after the world war, we entered recognizing two minorities.

Vangjel Dule: Xhufi's mentality is communist, it disgusts me. I recommend you to read the convention on the rights of minorities.
