The Laws Committee has approved the amendments approved by MP Blendi Klosi to extend the deadline for paying income tax for another two years for 4 and 5 star hotels.

From the Socialists, MPs Petro Koçi and Pandeli Majko abstained, while the opposition was against.

"Since there was no brand Albania in 2019, today there are 22 structures in Albania that are functional and will continue to be functional ," said Klosi.

Democratic Party MP Dhurata Çupi said that the law has a purely electoral effect.

"I ask you to withdraw this bill. Do not use it in the final months of the elections to get on closed lists or on Edi Rama's favorability lists ," said Çupi.

"I believe I did it to get on the lists, but I am proud that when I was in office as minister I had the opportunity to draft this policy and I signed this policy," said Klosi, among other things.

Since 2019, the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama has granted special investor status in five-star accommodation structures to a group of businessmen close to him. These companies benefit from a number of other fiscal incentives such as exemption from the infrastructure tax and the value added tax, VAT, at a rate of 6%.

The Committee on Production Activities also approved the extension of the deadline for obtaining strategic investor status until December 31, 2026.
