The Democrats were divided in the local elections that were held on Sunday, May 14, and the result was disastrous. Berisha, without a logo and without a seal, united his democrats with the party of Ilir Meta, Nard Ndoka and Vangjel Dulen, and together they managed to take only 7 municipalities.
Whereas, Enkelejd Alibeaj's official Democratic Party had few candidates, but even in those municipalities where he ran, in some of them he came out fourth.
But this division of the democrats gave some gifts to the Socialist Party, since if the votes were not divided among the democrats, it would not be able to win. This is at least more certain in 4 municipalities, in Mallakastër, Këlcyre, Kuçovo and Finiq, where if they had come up with a candidate they would have won against the Socialist Party, which in these 4 local units was the only competitor in front of .
In Kuçovo , if the 739 votes of Ilirjan Koxhaj of the Democratic Party were added to the 6,222 votes received by Lefter Maliqi of the "Together We Win" coalition, the victory would go to the right with a margin of 57 votes.
In Mallakastër , Agron Kapllanaj of the official Democratic Party received 5789 votes, while Resmi Shanaj of "Bashke Fitomje" received 735 votes. If there was a union of forces here too, the victory over the socialists would have been achieved with a margin of 445 votes.
In Finic, Leonidha Papa of the Official Democratic Party secured 1,705 votes, but if those of Leonidha Hristos of the "Together We Win" coalition from 1911 were added, a victory would have been achieved with a margin of 1,344 votes over the candidate Romeo Çakuli of Greek Ethnic Minority for the Future, which turns out to be the winner in this municipality.
Këlcyra is another municipality, where "Bashke Fitomje" and the Democratic Party clearly harmed each other. Thus, if the votes of Arjan Kasaj of "Bashke Fitomje" had joined those of Adriatik Spahi, a victory with a difference of 54 votes would have been achieved.
But beyond the mathematical calculations, the joining of forces could also have brought a spirit that would positively affect grassroots democrats and supporters of the right, which was not possible before the elections. If there was a spirit of unity, the Democrats could probably win in many other municipalities where the result was narrow, such as Këlcyra or Rrogozhina.
